Lousal Mining Village

Alentejo | Portugal

Alentejo, Peace and Quiet

Lousal Mining Village has about 450 residents and is located in Alentejo, half way between Lisbon (140 km) and the Algarve, at the exit of the A2 motorway via the Beja/Ferreira interchange

The Alentejo coast and beaches of Sto. André and Melides are only about 50 km away. This village still shows traces of the early pyrite mining activities from the Bronze Age (3300 B.C.) and one can still visit the old mine facilities, in operation between 1882 and 1988, an important component of the Iberian Pyrite Belt.

Lousal Mining Village is intended for all those looking for a quiet and pleasant place to live or spend their holidays, including the set-up of facilities for the elderly, as it lies quite close to some of the most beautiful Atlantic beaches with extensive stretches of sand, far from the hustle and bustle of the large cities and who want to make the most of the almost 300 days of sunshine per year, that Alentejo can offer.
